Transforming a 12-story building into a living, breathing canvas of shadow and light — a large-scale projection mapping installation for Art Basel 2025.
The Obsidian Façade project transformed a 12-story residential tower into an immersive visual narrative over three nights during Art Basel Miami 2025. Using 14 high-lumen projectors mapped to the building's exact geometry, we created a sequence of evolving visual stories that responded to the architecture itself.
Every window, ledge, and surface became part of the canvas. The building appeared to breathe, fracture, and reassemble — blurring the line between structure and illusion. The installation drew over 12,000 visitors across three evenings.
The project required months of pre-production: 3D scanning the building, developing custom content that mapped precisely to its geometry, and engineering a projection rig that could withstand Miami's coastal winds. The result was a piece that felt less like a projection and more like the building itself was waking up.
“It felt like the building was dreaming. I’ve never experienced architecture like that — it was alive.”Architectural Digest Review
